Burn Permit Information

TONGANOXIE CITY RESIDENTS - You may submit a burn permit using this form.  If you have questions or require clarification regarding your planned burn please contact the Tonganoxie City Fire Department at (913) 845-9494

LANSING CITY RESIDENTS - To apply for a burn permit please contact the Leavenworth County Fire District 1 station at (913) 727-5844.

Burns must be monitored at all times.  The Burn permit is valid for the day of submission only.  Burns may start at 0700 hours (7:00 A.M.) and must be extinguished by 1900 hours (7:00 P.M.), absent permission from your township fire chief.

METAL BARREL BURN - A burn permit is not required if burning in a metal barrel not to exceed fifty-five (55) gallons, covered by a metal screen, placed on a non-combustible surface free of vegetation by at least three (3) feet and located no closer than one-hundred (100) feet from all property lines.  

BONFIRE - Permission for a bonfire must be granted by the township fire chief.  Please contact your township fire personnel for permission before submitting this permit or calling the Sheriff's Office for a permit. Click HERE for a listing of telephone numbers by township.

STRUCTURE BURN - A structure is considered to be a building of any size.  Inspection is required and permission must be granted by the township fire chief prior to burning any structure in Leavenworth County, i.e., chicken coop, outbuilding, barn, etc.  Please contact your township fire personnel for permission before submitting this permit or calling the Sheriff's Office for a permit. OVERNIGHT BURN - Permission for any type of overnight burn must be granted by the township fire chief prior to receiving a burn permit.  Please contact your township fire personnel for permission before submitting this permit or calling the Sheriff's Office for a permit. BANNED FROM BURNING - If you have been notified by your township fire chief that you have been banned from burning, permission from the fire chief is required prior to receiving a burn permit.
