Long considered the father of modern law enforcement, Sir Robert Peel once stated "The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence".

These 19th century principles of policing which officers were charged with is not that different today. It was recognized early on that the success of law enforcement was based largely upon their relationship with the community and the community’s approval of their actions. Officers were to be fair, courteous and of good humor.

Today, our expectations are not that different. For us to be successful, we fully acknowledge the necessity of a community partnership.

As your elected Sheriff, I take this opportunity to express our staff’s commitment to providing you with professional and courteous law enforcement services. We seek a proactive approach and utilize common sense to solve problems and further our partnership with the community.
